PTI 'resurrected' in provincial assemblies as its 93 MPAs declared party lawmaker

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has notified 93 lawmakers from Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Sindh assemblies as "returned candidates" of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), following the Supreme Court's July 12 ruling in the reserved seats case. This move revitalizes PTI's presence in parliament .

This update follows the ECP's recent declaration of 39 PTI National Assembly members as affiliated with the party. These 132 members had indicated their PTI affiliation in their documents submitted before the general elections.

According to the ECP's latest notification, 29 PTI lawmakers from Punjab, 58 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and six from Sindh have been confirmed as PTI members.

The Supreme Court's landmark decision on July 12 reinstated PTI's eligibility for reserved seats for women and minorities in both national and provincial assemblies. The ECP had faced difficulties implementing this order due to PTI's lack of organizational structure for verifying the statements of their MNAs and MPAs.

The apex court's ruling overturned the previous decisions of the ECP and Peshawar High Court, affirming PTI's status as a political party entitled to reserved seats. The ruling coalition, PML-N and PPP, have filed a review petition against this verdict.
