LAHORE: Dr. Yasmin Rashid, a senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been transferred to Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital in Lahore after her health worsened, according to sources reported by Geo News on Monday.
Rashid's lawyer, Advocate Rana Mudassar, stated that despite multiple court orders mandating timely medical care for Rashid, who is currently on judicial remand in Kot Lakhpat Jail, she did not receive the necessary attention. As a result, her condition deteriorated.
Advocate Mudassar mentioned that her exact condition will be determined after she undergoes cancer-related tests.
Sources at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital confirmed that Rashid, who previously served as Punjab's health minister, has been admitted for specific tests and is experiencing breathing difficulties. Further medical evaluations are expected to be conducted at a government hospital.
This incident marks another episode of health issues for the 72-year-old PTI leader. In May, she was admitted to Lahore's Services Hospital after collapsing.
Rashid has been imprisoned for over a year, facing multiple charges connected to the nationwide protests and riots that erupted on May 9, 2023, following the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan. Initially detained on May 12 under the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance, she was re-arrested for her alleged involvement in the May 9 unrest.
Several PTI leaders, including Imran Khan, have been detained for nearly a year, primarily due to charges stemming from the May 9 protests, during which state installations, including the Lahore Corps Commander House, were attacked.
