In a video message delivered during the 2024 Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit, coinciding with Climate Week in New York, Prince William announced the 15 finalists of the prestigious Earthshot Prize. Each finalist presents an innovative solution to combat climate change, competing for a £1 million environmental award. This year, five winners will each receive £1 million to further their impactful initiatives.
Founded by Prince William in 2020, the Earthshot Prize aims to recognize and support individuals and organizations dedicated to finding effective solutions to pressing environmental issues.
Among this year's finalists are innovators developing clean energy harnessed from ambient heat, a company focused on modernizing seaweed farming to rejuvenate marine ecosystems, and an initiative that transforms crop waste into a sustainable leather alternative, among other groundbreaking projects.
In his announcement, Prince William emphasized the significant contributions of the finalists, stating, “They are leading the way in solving some of the most urgent environmental challenges.” He celebrated their achievements and dedication, remarking, “Today, we celebrate the incredible achievement, unwavering dedication, and urgent optimism that drives our fourth class of Earthshot innovators.”
He further highlighted the finalists' passion as a testament to the potential of harnessing the creativity and ingenuity of communities globally. The Earthshot Prize continues to inspire and promote innovative solutions aimed at securing a healthier planet for future generations.
