Nation celebrating 76th Independence Day with national zeal

The country is joyfully celebrating its 76th Independence Day on August 14 (Monday) with traditional excitement and a renewed commitment to follow the spirit of the Pakistan Movement. This movement aimed to transform the country into a genuine Islamic welfare state, as shared by the 24NewsHD TV channel.

The day began with a 31-gun salute in the Federal Capital and a 21-gun salute at provincial headquarters.

Early morning special prayers were held in mosques for the country's peace, unity, and prosperity.

The most remarkable part of the celebrations was the raising of the national flag at Islamabad's Convention Centre. President Dr Arif Alvi, as the chief guest, unfurled the flag and talked about the sacrifices made by our ancestors for a separate homeland for Muslims in the subcontinent. This ceremony began with Quranic verses and ended with the national anthem.

Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, and many people from all walks of life attended the event.

During his speech, the president said, "Countries that forget their martyrs' sacrifices forget their future. Over 100,000 people lost their lives in the fight against terrorism."

He added, "Efforts and sacrifices for Pakistan began with the 1857 war. Sacrifices were made for law and the Constitution's supremacy. Unity can be created by following teachings from the Quran."

Similar flag-raising events are happening at different levels across the country.

The country paused dramatically at 9 am, marked by the sounding of sirens for the flag-raising ceremony.

At the Convention Centre, President Alvi mentioned that Quaid-i-Azam always discouraged favoritism and advocated for merit, unity, socio-economic fairness, and alleviating poverty.

He emphasized that Pakistan gained freedom in 1947 thanks to Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, other leaders, and countless sacrifices.

The president affirmed that the armed forces, police, and the public still protect the nation's security, with over 100,000 people losing their lives in the fight against terrorism.

The purpose of Pakistan's independence was to establish a separate state for the subcontinent's Muslims, where they could live according to Islamic principles.

The president paid heartfelt tribute to Pakistan's founders and those who sacrificed their lives for the country.

He urged the country's elite to fight poverty and improve education and health, which are interconnected.

He pointed out that 27 million children are out of school and need to enroll.

He stressed that every child should go to school, which requires resources.

He called on everyone to pay their taxes to help the government offer better facilities.

While exploring natural resources is essential, the president said that the real wealth is in people's minds, which should be fully utilized. He highlighted the importance of technology, IT, industries, and agriculture.

He quoted Allama Iqbal, saying that a nation can't develop without women's participation. He encouraged women to actively contribute to the country's progress.

The president noted that Quaid-i-Azam also encouraged his sister Fatima Jinnah to participate in politics.

He showed solidarity with the people of Occupied Kashmir and hoped that it would become part of Pakistan.

He thanked China, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Iran, Turkiye, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for supporting Pakistan.

He mentioned that Islam preaches peace and love, even in difficult times.

Meanwhile, various public and private groups are organizing special events like seminars, exhibitions, and competitions to honor Pakistan Movement leaders and national heroes.

Educational institutions are holding quizzes and speeches to teach students about Pakistan's history.
