Miss Universe cuts ties with Indonesia chapter after harassment allegations

The Miss Universe Organization has stopped working with the group in Indonesia that runs its events there. This happened because some women said they were treated badly before the Miss Universe Indonesia pageant. These women claimed they were asked to take off their clothes for a body check, and pictures were taken of some of them.

The Miss Universe Organization, based in the US, said on a social media site that they decided to end their partnership with the Indonesian group because it didn't meet their standards and values. They also thanked the women for speaking up and said that keeping women safe was very important to them.

The police in Jakarta are looking into the complaint made by these women.

Because the Indonesian group also managed the Miss Universe Malaysia competition, there won't be a Miss Universe Malaysia event this year.

The person who leads the Indonesian group said on Instagram that she had nothing to do with the body checks and didn't allow any violence or harassment.

The Miss Universe Indonesia pageant was held in Jakarta, and the winner, Fabienne Nicole Groeneveld, will still get to compete in the Miss Universe finale scheduled for November in El Salvador.
