KARACHI: The man suspected of harassing Pakistani actress Srha Asghar may walk free as the First Information Report (FIR) filed against him could be dismissed due to the complainant's lack of cooperation, stated the police on Friday.
Inspector Javed Babar, in charge of the Sharea Faisal Investigation Department, revealed that his department is, nevertheless, preparing to submit a case challan against the suspect, identified as Asim.
He further elaborated that during the suspect's court appearance on the following day, Asim refuted all the allegations against him.
"Despite summoning the alleged victim, a female judge did not find her presence in the court. Moreover, neither the torn clothes from the incident nor the requested eyewitnesses were produced before the police or the court," he added.
No legal representative from the plaintiff's side appeared in the court as well, the police added.
Due to the complainant's lack of cooperation, the court has ordered the release of the suspect on bail.
According to police sources, the incident occurred on August 1 when the actress had gone to the market for errands.
The FIR has been officially registered at the Sharea Faisal Police Station based on the complaint lodged by Umar Murtaza, Srha's husband.
In the statement provided to the law enforcement agency, Srha recounted that an individual began trailing her and engaging in catcalling while she was on her way back from the market.
She further detailed that the suspect followed her all the way to her residence and even attempted to touch her, resulting in the tearing of her clothing.
According to her account, Srha urgently rang the doorbell and summoned her husband to intervene. This escalated into a confrontation between her husband and the suspect.
In the actress's narrative, the man eventually entered their home and physically assaulted her, causing further damage to her attire.
However, as per Inspector Babar's account, despite registering the case and referring the accused to the police, neither the complainant nor her husband have since appeared at the police station for further proceedings.
