Anju asks Indian media not to 'destroy her character

Anju, an Indian woman who recently crossed the border to marry her Facebook friend Nasrallah in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has taken to social media to appeal to Indian media outlets to cease tarnishing her reputation. Reports labeling her as a traitor have circulated, prompting her to address the accusations in a heartfelt video.

In the video message, Anju asserts her humanity and denies any enmity towards her home country. "I am also a human being, I am not anyone's enemy," she stated firmly. She categorically refutes allegations of betrayal and expresses her frustration over the negative portrayal in Indian media.

Having embraced Islam and adopted the name Fatima, the 34-year-old Indian citizen's union with 29-year-old Nasrallah has been met with both interest and controversy. Anju maintains that her expressions of appreciation for Pakistan do not equate to disdain for India. "It's not like I don't love India. I love India and will go back to my country with my husband," she asserts, underscoring her bond with both nations.

Anju's video further emphasizes her admiration for the people of Pakistan and requests Indian media to reconsider their portrayal of her. She stresses her genuine intentions and the positive aspects of her story that transcend borders.

According to reports from Indian media, Anju crossed into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Upper Dir district on July 22 via the Wagah border. Despite being a mother of two, she connected with Nasrallah on Facebook, with their friendship evolving into love, culminating in her decision to cross the border for marriage.

Malakand Division District Inspector General Nasir Mahmood Dasti has confirmed Anju and Nasrullah's marriage, highlighting Anju's conversion to Islam and her adoption of the name Fatima. In a notable development, Pakistani authorities extended her visa by one year, with her husband confirming the extension. This follows a previous two-month extension.

As the narrative surrounding Anju and Nasrallah's cross-border marriage continues, the plea for fair portrayal and understanding echoes Anju's aspiration for harmony between the two neighboring countries.
