The death toll in the horrific accident between two passenger trains and a freight train in the Balasore district of the Indian state of Odisha has reached 280, while more than 900 people have been injured.

According to Indian media, the Coromandel Express was traveling from Kolkata to Chennai when it collided with the coaches of another train.
Preliminary investigations indicate that both trains were on the same track, which caused the accident. The freight train was stationary at the accident site.
