Former DGISI Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hameed Not in Custody
Islamabad (Social Media Point News) Sources have claimed that former DGISI Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hameed is not in custody. Some reports on social media on Wednesday claimed that the former DGISI had been detained at his residence in his hometown Chakwal and would be interrogated in connection with the May 9 attacks. The News contacted three different sources to ascertain the veracity of the social media reports. The trio denied these reports and said that General Faiz had not been arrested. One of these sources also said that he had met General (R) Faiz Hameed in the past few days.
The correspondent also tried to contact the former ISI chief on his mobile number, but the number was switched off. General Faiz Hameed has been at the center of debate in both media and politics as his tenure as DGC and later as DG of the ISI was surrounded by controversies. These controversies continue to haunt him even after retirement. Many people in the political arena and the media have alleged that Faiz Hameed has been one of Imran Khan's close associates ever since he was removed from office. Some allege that General Faiz has been advising Imran Khan in recent months as well.
There are also speculations about Faiz Imran's connection behind the May 9 attacks. However, these reports are unconfirmed. There was also a disproportionate assets case against former DGISI Lt Gen (Rtd) Faiz Hameed which was sent to NAB before the appointment of the current NAB Chairman. However, the Bureau returned the reference.
The News had reported in March this year that the NAB Rawalpindi office had received a file to initiate an inquiry against the former DGISI, which contained complete details of the income tax records of General Faiz and some unknown locals of Chakwal. A two-page complaint was filed with the signatures of the individuals.
Sources said that DG NAB Rawalpindi considered the file and after consulting its then chairman, returned the case with the direction that a formal request be made to the bureau by the authorities concerned.
Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah also said a few months ago that an inquiry is being conducted against General (R) Faiz Hameed and that whatever progress is made in this regard will be shared with the media. The interior minister did not specify which agency is conducting the investigation against General Faiz.
He also did not provide details about the ongoing investigations against the former DGISI. However, Rana Sanaullah said that General Faiz's court martial can only be conducted by the institution. He further stated that the military trial is conducted by the GHQ and not by the Ministry of Interior.
