ISLAMABAD – The political climate remains tense in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi as a convoy of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), led by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, reached the capital on Saturday.
Thousands of PTI workers surged into the city despite ongoing tear gas shelling and police assaults. Federal authorities implemented strict preventive measures, digging trenches and placing iron nails on several roadways to hinder their advance.
The PTI has accused the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) of orchestrating intense tear gas attacks at D-Chowk, sharing purported video evidence to substantiate their claims.
Undeterred by the challenges, PTI leaders vowed to maintain their protests at D-Chowk, calling on party members to refrain from damaging public property. They alleged that plainclothes security personnel were attempting to incite unrest, drawing parallels to the violent events of May 9.
Additionally, party members urged building owners in the Blue Area to prevent police from positioning themselves on rooftops, warning that such actions could lead to the use of tear gas against peaceful protesters.
