ISLAMABAD: In the aftermath of Chief Selector Wahab Raiz’s recent remarks on Haris Rauf's decision to withdraw from the upcoming Australia tour, the talented pacer finds himself "upset over undue criticism," as reported by The News on Friday.
The pacer, currently participating in the National T20 Championship in Karachi, is reportedly focused on achieving optimal mental, physical, and form-wise conditions before making a Test cricket comeback.
"Haris is upset with those who have unleashed undue criticism on the pacers during the World Cup campaign. Even those with limited cricket knowledge are questioning his form and wicket-taking abilities in World Cup matches," revealed a close family source.
According to the source, Haris believes that he needs to be mentally and physically prepared for the challenges of Test cricket, requiring heightened alertness over five days of play.
"Haris is of the view that he should concentrate on the shorter version of the game to get himself ready for Tests and other international commitments. Expect to see him playing all formats in just a matter of months," the source added.
This development comes after Chief Selector Wahab Riaz unveiled the 18-member Pakistan Test squad for the Australia tour, scheduled from December 14, 2023, to January 7, 2024. Riaz, in his maiden press conference, expressed disappointment over Haris Rauf's last-minute withdrawal, citing concerns about potential fitness issues.
"It is important to inform you about this because people should have clarity about what's going on," emphasized Riaz. "This setback will undoubtedly affect Pakistan's performance. Our fitness consultant assured us that Rauf would not face any issues, but he pulled out at the last moment."
