Even parts of the business community, which initially saw hope in a technocratic and apolitical caretaker administration, are now searching for alternative avenues to place their bets.

The caretaker government's performance, thus far, has been less than stellar. They initially sought and received extensive media attention, further fueling concerns of a protracted stay in power. Their first significant challenge emerged with the electricity bills crisis, prompting a series of publicized meetings and vague promises of solutions that are yet to materialize.

Amidst this, a flurry of statements led to confusion, necessitating clarifications on various fronts. The finance minister expressed doubts about her role, the prime minister commented on the scale of electricity protests, and a controversy arose over the prime minister's visit to Kenya.

The electricity issue, in particular, has contributed to the perception that the new caretaker government is uninspiring and directionless, failing to fulfill the hopes of those who expected a well-thought-out plan to tackle economic challenges.

Consequently, the rupee's value continued to slide, and protests against inflated utility bills grew, pushing the nation closer to a potential economic implosion.

This growing uncertainty prompted speculation about a meeting between a senior military official and the business community, which, according to tweets, offered reassuring assurances and a six-month deadline to address a range of issues, from smuggling to the tax base to corruption.

However, questions remain about the sustainability of providing assurances from behind the scenes if the caretaker government's performance does not improve. As economic conditions deteriorate, there is a growing concern that the façade of caretaking may be abandoned for a more direct intervention.

Additionally, some observers wonder if this is Pakistan's third attempt at a hybrid government, with the PTI, Shehbaz Sharif's PDM government, and the current caretaker setup all seeking to address the nation's challenges with varying degrees of success.
