ISLAMABAD: In the midst of the ongoing developments surrounding the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on August 5, the party's leadership has initiated discussions with foreign diplomats stationed in Islamabad, seeking "support" and seeking assistance for their leader.

As Imran Khan has been in custody for over two weeks following a trial court's verdict in the Toshakhan case, PTI's efforts to engage foreign diplomats have gained momentum.

Reportedly, a gathering of PTI stalwarts, including Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Barrister Ali Zafar, and Raoof Hasan, convened with seven foreign envoys at the residence of Australian High Commissioner Neil Hawkins in the Diplomatic Enclave.

Among the diplomats present were US Ambassador Donald Blome, UK High Commissioner Jane Marriott, European Union Ambassador Dr Riina Kionka, Canadian High Commissioner Leslie Scanlon, Norwegian Ambassador Per Albert Ilsaas, and Indonesian Ambassador Adam Mulawarman Tugio.

Although there has been no official confirmation from the diplomats, two PTI leaders have indicated that the meeting took place. The Foreign Office has not provided its perspective on this development either.

The breakfast meeting was previously scheduled with the consent of PTI's prominent member Shah Mahmood Qureshi, who holds the position of the party's senior vice chairman and has previously served as the country's foreign minister twice.

Sources have revealed that during the meeting, the PTI leaders discussed the circumstances surrounding Imran Khan's detention and the case for which he received a prison sentence from the court.

They also discussed the cipher saga with the US ambassador and engaged in conversations about the current political landscape.

Raoof Hasan, PTI's Central Secretary Information, mentioned that the Australian high commissioner extended an invitation for breakfast, which was utilized as an opportunity to discuss the prevailing political situation in the country.

Additionally, Senator Ali Zafar stated that the discussion with foreign envoys encompassed topics such as the increasing trends of terrorism, the regional situation, upcoming elections, and various political matters.
