Attock jail officials told to provide medical facilities to Imran, allow meetings with friends and family

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) told the Attock Jail leaders to give PTI Chairman Imran Khan proper medical care and let him meet his friends and family as allowed by the law. The court also said he should have a prayer mat and an English version of the Holy Quran.

On August 5, a court in Islamabad found Imran guilty of hiding information about gifts from the government and gave him a three-year jail term. But the Punjab police arrested him in Lahore, even though the court had said Islamabad's police chief should do it. The court had also said he should go to Adiala Jail, but he went to Attock Jail instead.

Imran was given B-Class facilities in jail, but his lawyers said he was living in tough conditions like C-Class facilities.

Later, Imran wanted to move from Attock Jail to a better place in Adiala Jail, and he also wanted to meet his lawyers, family, doctor, and political aides.

Before this, PTI's lawyers were worried about Imran's safety in Attock Jail.

Recently, the court asked for a report about why Imran was put in Attock Jail instead of Adiala Jail. They mentioned Rule 92 of the Pakistan Prison Rules 1978 (PPR), which says that prisoners who are found guilty should have the chance to meet their family, friends, and lawyers to prepare for their appeal.

The court ordered that Imran should have a prayer mat, an English version of the Holy Quran, and proper medical care. They also said he should get all the things he's allowed to have according to the rules.

Separately, the IHC asked for all the information about the Toshakhana case against Imran. This happened because Imran asked the court to review his conviction in that case, saying the trial court's decision was biased. The court told the election official in Islamabad about this appeal. The case was about a law called the Election Act, 2017, and the court had given Imran a three-year jail time and a fine of Rs100,000 as punishment.
