Destruction by rains

Rain is the mercy of Allah. This mercy becomes a problem not only in us but in many cities of the world. Our media blames the Sindh government for the damage caused by the rains in Karachi, even though it rains in other cities of Pakistan, be it Rawalpindi or Islamabad, this time there was destruction everywhere in the rains, but if you look at some newspapers or media, only Karachi. There is a commotion in the rain. Why? The heavy rains in the first week of July are double the average of the last 30 years and these rains have broken all the records of the last 30 years.

Destruction by rains

This year's monsoon season has caused a historic disaster by causing loss of life and property at the outset, which has not only destroyed human lives and property but also the economy. According to the data from all over Pakistan this year, the rain has probably killed hundreds of people. Senior PPP and Minister for Climate Change Sherry Rehman warned in a press conference on Wednesday that this is just the beginning of an above-normal monsoon season triggered by global warming and emphasized the need to make policies and take measures to deal with climate change. He urged people to follow government guidelines to avoid loss of life and property. For a long time, people have been informed about climate change and its consequences.

It is true that global warming is causing heavy rains and floods, but it would be unfair to attribute all the deaths and destruction in the past few weeks to this phenomenon alone. One of the reasons for this is bad governance. As always, the ministers and concerned authorities mobilized only after the total disaster, who only give directions and sympathize with those who suffer disaster due to their negligence. It is no accident that the greatest loss of life has occurred near rivers or canals. In Balochistan, where 39 people were killed and 35 injured, people familiar with the situation said most of them lived in poorly constructed houses near river dams, which swelled with rainwater. .In the city of Rawalpindi, Nallah Lai, once a fresh water channel in Islamabad, which carries down the capital's rainwater as well as some of its waste, has also claimed many lives because of its The banks are occupied by people. In a tragic incident last Wednesday, a man drowned while trying to save three children. Earlier in a similar incident, a man drowned in Islamabad's Coring drain while trying to save four children, but luckily he was rescued by Navy divers, It is not yet known whether the people living on the banks of the river in Sindh have been harmed or not. However, as usual, the storm drains in Karachi remained full of garbage, resulting in inundation of roads and residential areas across the city. It is a common practice to throw dirt and filth into Karachi's drains, and then people expect the government to remove them from the rain. Clean the drains first. The devastation from the Karachi to Khyber rains is clearly a combination of climate change and weak governance that is causing so much death and destruction. Federal and provincial governments should not blame everything on global warming. Certainly educating the public about impending disasters is important, but it is insufficient. Time has come to take strict action against those who build houses and dump garbage in drains and rivers and organize drainage in big cities which will help in reducing such incidents.
