Suspect Arrested in Honey Trap Case Involving Playwright Khalilur Rehman Qamar.
LAHORE: The alleged mastermind behind the honey trap and ransom case involving renowned playwright Khalilur Rehman Qamar has been apprehended, according to Lahore police. Hasan Shah, identified as the leader of the gang, was arrested along with his accomplice Rafiq in Peshawar, police confirmed on Tuesday. Shah is also accused of circulating an "objectionable" video of Qamar.
The incident occurred on July 15 when a woman reportedly lured Qamar to her residence under the pretense of discussing a new drama project. Upon his arrival, armed men reportedly assaulted him and demanded a significant ransom for his release.
The initial report was lodged on July 21, citing charges under Sections 395 (punishment for dacoity) and 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Following Qamar’s complaint, the Organised Crime Unit (OCU) of Model Town detained 12 suspects, including Amina Urooj, a key suspect. Urooj and the others are currently in custody as investigations continue.
Known for hit dramas such as Meray Paas Tum Ho and Pyarey Afzal, Qamar had met the woman at 4:40 AM, following his doctor’s advice to avoid daytime outings. He clarified that he did not coerce anyone into meeting him, emphasizing that the woman had initiated the meeting with intentions of joining his drama projects.
