Elections to be delayed as ECP announces delimitation schedule

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced a schedule for new delimitations based on the recently approved census by the Council of Common Interest (CCI). The process will take nearly four months, with delimitation occurring from September 8 to October 7. The new constituency boundaries will be finalized and notified in December this year. This means that general elections cannot be held within 90 days of the dissolution of the provincial and national assemblies. The ECP's decision follows the constitutional requirement to adjust boundaries based on population changes. The CCI's approval made this process mandatory after reporting a population of 241.49 million with a growth rate of 2.55%.
