Pakistan's Finance and Foreign Ministers Seek Help from Friendly Countries on Tough IMF Terms

Type Here Progress has been revealed in the talks between Pakistan and the IMF on the issue of direct loans. According to the sources, progress has also been made in the relations between the Pakistani Ministry of Finance and the Foreign Office with the US and other countries. Finance and Foreign Ministers have requested help from friendly countries on difficult terms of the IMF. According to the sources of the Ministry of Finance, the Minister of Finance also participated in the negotiations from time to time. In the negotiations, it has been agreed to make external financing 6 billion dollars instead of 7 billion dollars this year. Sources of the Ministry of Finance have said that there has been a discussion on rolling over 2 billion dollars from China, while China has assured to get 80 million dollars soon. Sources said that the State Bank and IMF officials have discussed the revised MEFP, the finance ministry and the IMF will prepare the revised MEFP in the next 2 days. Sources further said that the new MEFP is likely to include a revolving debt reduction schedule. Sources also say that the Ministry of Finance is once again hoping for a staff level agreement with the IMF in the next 2 days.
